Remarks:
The Docter Aspectem, sold until 2018 by Docter’s new owner Noblex in three configurations – 30.5×80 with standard eyepiece, 40×80 with ultrawide eyepiece, 20-50×80 with zoom eyepiece – represented the top of the market of large straight-through binoculars. Brillant optics with excellent correction of chromatic aberration provide high contrast and good sharpness. When using the Aspectem, you have to consider that the straight-through design is not always optimal when observing the night sky – 45 degree or 90 degree angled binoculars have an advantage in this respect – and that a magnification of more than, say, 20x for terrestrial observations, where the straight-through configuration is useful, is often not possible due to air turbulence. Still, the Aspectem is a fabulous instrument both for day and nighttime, and it is a pity that it is no longer produced.
